October 2020: 10 Home Decor and Renovation Articles to Check Out

1. Tile tables are the new design craze

Now, this is one of my favourite new trends, and I’m happy it’s coming back. I’ve spotted those on Pinterest a while ago, and they are gaining much interest in the design community. What is interesting about them is that they can easily become a crafty DIY project.

2. The next decorating trends for 2021 you’re about to see everywhere

On the same blog, I found this interesting article about what’s to come in the future of home decor for the next year. There are a lot of speculations and predictions going around right now about the matter, with 2020 quickly coming to an end, but this one is by far my favourite so far!

3. City couple shares their new country home and 16 acres of land with local farmers

Architect Eugene Kwak and wife Claire Ko left Greenwich Village after years of living in the big city, only to build a 3,000-square-foot, two-family home in the Hudson Valley. They named the project “Togather”.

It started with a passion for their local farmer’s market, and an idea to share their home to help young farmers looking for land.

4. This space pod mansion built on neolithic burial grounds is up for grabs

Yes, you read that right: this masterpiece of futuristic architecture built on ancient neolithic grounds is now on the market and ready to have you as an owner. Located in France, this project is part of the country’s Architecture-sculpture movement that gained popularity in the 1950s. Perfect for any science fiction lovers!

5. Exploring the dense landscape of Hong Kong’s housing

In beautiful and intriguing photographs, Belgian photographer Kris Provoost presents his project Eden of the Orient, an ode to Hong Kong’s peculiar scenery, mixing both nature and densely built architecture. Tall apartment buildings mix with mountains in this photography project, highlighting one the of densest places to live on Earth.

6. Mirrored cabins in the mountains of Hubei province, China

Designed by Chinese architecture firms Wiki World and Advanced Architecture Lab, these 18 timber cabins covered in mirrors on the outside are part of a hotel in Yichang, China. Spread across the mountainside, they reflect their environment and are truly a breathtaking sight.

7. This library is any book lover’s dream come true

We’re still in China but this time, we’re travelling to the city of Chengdu where we will discover the brand new Zhongshuge bookstore and its amazing design. It’s not a new thing for Zhongshuge bookstores to be built with intriguing and crazy designs, but this one beats them all.

Created by Shanghai-based architecture firm X+Living, the bookstore looks like it is infinite and never-ending. Now as much as we’d want this to be true, the effect is created by some wallpaper applied at the top of the walls with books printed on it, mimicking a full shelf, as well as a completely mirrored ceiling.

See it for yourself in this article.

8. Apartment Therapy talks about the fear of mirrors and how to unlearn and work around it

For many, the presence of mirrors is a source of anxiety. It’s well known in folklore or legends that mirrors often are viewed as portals to other dimensions or are a source of a lot of paranormal energy. A very thematic article for the month of October!

However, this all is very unfortunate because mirrors are a great way to add dimension and reflect light in your home, especially for small spaces!

9. This famous horror movie house has hit the market and is up for grabs

Another thematic article for October: the house of Oscar-winning movie Silence of The Lambs is now for sale. This beautiful four-bedroom Victorian house also comes with 1.76 acres of land and is located 1 hour away from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

10. This house is a mix of different culture and traditional decors

Located in San Francisco, this 1926 house is decorated in an elegant eclectic mix of Portuguese tiling, Italian art as well as Chinese and Brazilian motifs. Home of designer Antonio Martins, who himself grew up in many different countries, fell in love with the history-packed house and wanted to honour its diversity.
